Volunteers of America invites the public to donate backpacks and school supplies through July 26 to its annual Operation Backpack campaign, which supports homeless and low-income children and foster youth.
The program, which distributed 1,300 backpacks last year, hopes to serve every homeless child in the Bay Area this year by collecting 10,000 backpacks filled with supplies. Backpacks are distributed to children in Volunteers of America shelters and homeless programs, partnering agencies and school districts. Donations can be dropped off at locations throughout the Bay Area, including Microsoft stores, Mike's Auto Body or Volunteers of America offices in Oakland and Martinez. Donors are asked to call 510-663-4546 ext. 109 to schedule drop-offs in Oakland or 925-228-0200 for Martinez drop-offs.
More information, including drop-off locations, is at OperationBackpackBayArea.org.
