SANTA CLARA -- Some Seattle Seahawks fans are aiming to purchase a commemorative brick at the San Francisco 49ers' new stadium -- prompting questions over whether the trash talk between two of the NFL's biggest rivals will make its way to the Niners' new home.

Dozens of Seahawks fans contributed more than $1,000 online to inscribe "Go Hawks" or other anti-49ers messages outside the team's shiny new palace in Santa Clara after the bricks went on sale last week. On Reddit, users suggested buying bricks with phrases such as "Congrats on the second best stadium in the NFC West," "Ravens 34, 49ers 31" (the score of this year's Super Bowl) or sly phrases in which the first letter of each word spells out "G-O-H-A-W-K-S."

But after drawing some media attention for the posts in Seattle and the Bay Area, some Seahawks fans are focusing on a more civil approach, saying they don't want to get a bad rap.

"That (an anti-49ers message) would probably get shot down so I don't think we're even going to try it," said Willy Hu, a 24-year-old Seahawks fan who organized the fundraising campaign. He said he'll put the brick language to a vote among the people who donated. "We don't want to say anything hateful or derogatory. It's the 49ers doorstep."

The 49ers declined to comment and stadium officials would not say whether they would block fans from opposing teams from buying bricks.

In an emailed statement, Boise, Idaho-based Fund Raisers, Ltd. -- which is managing the brick program for the team and the Santa Clara Stadium Authority -- said: "As is our standard practice, all brick messages will be reviewed to make sure they are appropriate for the (Stadium Authority), the community, the tenants and the stadium patrons."

Mayor Jamie Matthews lauded the firm's "experience and success with similar projects throughout the country."

"I have every confidence in their ability to handle this process professionally," he said in a statement.

The bricks are intended to raise millions of dollars to chip away at the $1.3 billion price tag for Levi's Stadium. The red and gold bricks cost $195 to $545 and allow fans to write three to six lines of text.

A Seahawks fan named Ben, who started the Reddit post as a joke, said he didn't contribute to the campaign because it'd be like throwing money down the toilet.

"I think the Niners would put a stop to it -- that's just common sense to me," said Ben, who did not want his last name used. "I think there's no way to do it other than to be polite and gracious."
