BAY POINT -- A toddler remained in critical but stable condition Tuesday morning, a day after authorities say he accidentally fell from a second-story window.

Contra Costa Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the first block of Pacifica Avenue on Monday around 8:45 p.m. and found the 2-year-old boy inside the apartment being treated by his parents, Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said. The boy was conscious when paramedics and ambulance crews arrived, Lee said.

A passer-by first spotted the boy unconscious on the sidewalk below the window, Lee said. Authorities don't know how long the boy was unconscious on the sidewalk, Lee said.

The boy was taken by helicopter to UC Davis Medical Center, where he remained Tuesday.

Neither the boy nor his parents were identified by the Sheriff's Office.

According to Lee, the Sheriff's Office Investigation Division looked into the incident Tuesday morning and determined it was an accident.
