ANTIOCH -- A 43-year-old Antioch man was arrested Tuesday after pulling out a handgun at the Somersville Town Center, and he later was linked to a kidnapping and sexual assault and that occurred in the city the previous day, police said.

Kevin Harvey is expected to be charged with kidnapping while committing a robbery and/or rape; assault with the intention to rape; rape with the victim incapable of giving consent; sexual battery; intimidating a witness; and carjacking after police chased him as he tried to run away Wednesday, Antioch police Lt. Diane Aguinaga said.

Police did not say what prompted Harvey to brandish the gun during the 3:40 p.m. incident on Wednesday, but they said it was the same weapon he used to abduct a woman from the parking lot of a Kmart store at 3625 E. 18th St. the previous day.

Harvey is accused of forcing the woman into a vehicle around 2:30 p.m. and making her drive to various locations in Antioch, where he sexually assaulted her, Aguinaga said. The woman eventually escaped and ran to a nearby residence and called police, Aguinaga said.

After Harvey's arrest Wednesday, he was positively identified as the kidnapping suspect, Aguinaga said. He was booked into the County Jail in Martinez where he's being held in lieu of $1.425 million bail.

Anyone with additional information on Harvey and/or the incidents is asked to call Antioch police at 925-779-6931.
