Officers arrested 11 people for allegedly driving under the influence during a weekend DUI crackdown throughout Alameda County.
The crackdown spanned from just after midnight on Friday through noon Sunday, and 21 law enforcement agencies throughout the county took part, Hayward police Sgt. Chad Olthoff said.
In addition to the 11 countywide arrests, two DUI related collisions took place in the city of Hayward during the crackdown, with one resulting in the death of 24-year-old Orfil Sanchez Jr., Olthoff said.
Extra patrols were deployed in Hayward on Sunday night, he said.
Not all results from the crackdown have been submitted.
The sweep was conducted as part of a crackdown on drunk driving leading up to the Labor Day holiday weekend, conducted by the Avoid the 21 Alameda County DUI Task Force.
