CONCORD -- A man died after his car slammed into a tree early Saturday morning, police said.

Concord officers responded to Treat Boulevard near Thompson Road around 1:47 a.m. for reports of a traffic collision. When they arrived, they found the man dead in the driver's seat, according to Sgt. Cody Harrison. No one else was in the car and no one outside the car was injured, Harrison said.

The man was driving a white Chevrolet Impala, which appeared to have veered off the roadway and struck a tree. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The man's identity has not been released pending notification of his family.
