SAN LEANDRO -- The city's annual Family Bike Party gets under way Sunday, offering free bike tuneups, a bike ride through three community parks, music and activities.
The Bike Mobile will offer free bike tuneups and basic bike repair at the start of the event at Washington Manor Park from noon to 2 p.m.
The family bike ride to Bonaire Park 1.3 miles away begins at 2 p.m. Bike decorating and a bike parade will be featured upon arrival.
The ride will then continue on to Washington Manor Middle School Park for more activities and music, before returning to Washington Manor Park for a bike rodeo, DJ music and games, officials said.
Participants are encouraged to bring their bikes, helmets, locks and a picnic dinner to enjoy at the final destination. Children under 18 must wear a helmet, road rules must be followed, and alcohol is not allowed. A police escort will accompany riders.
The Alameda County Safe Routes to School program will provide the Bike Mobile, nonprofit Safe Moves will host the bike rodeo, and the San Leandro Optimist Club financially contributed to the activities.
