TRINITY COUNTY --A San Lorenzo man died of his injuries Friday after losing control of his motorcycle and striking a car before going off Highway 299 near Douglas City in Trinity County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP said Gregory Allen Delima, 55, was riding his motorcycle westbound on Highway 299 west of Douglas City at 1:10 p.m. in the left lane at high speed as he was passing traffic. Delima lost control of the motorcycle in a curve, crossed over the double yellow lines and side-swiped an eastbound car driven by James Dippery Jr., 67, of Weaverville. The motorcycle then went over the eastbound dirt embankment, the CHP said.

Delima was taken by ambulance to a nearby helicopter landing zone but needed CPR prior to boarding and was taken to the nearest hospital, Trinity, where he succumbed to his injuries at 3:19 p.m.

Information was not available as to whether Dippery was hurt.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call the CHP Trinity River Office at 530-623-3832.
