ORINDA -- One person was hospitalized after a car driving east on Highway 24 suddenly careened across traffic and into the center divide Monday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The solo-vehicle wreck happened around 11:05 a.m. near the Wilder Road offramp, Officer Ron Simmons said. The vehicle, the make of which was not available immediately, had at least one flat tire when it veered from the right lane across the left lanes of traffic, Simmons said.
The driver hit some bushes on the right-hand side of the freeway before careening across the freeway, Simmons said. No other cars were near the car when it darted across the lanes, he said.
The wreck momentarily blocked the No. 4 lane, but no lanes were ever shut down. Traffic was flowing in the area by 12:30 p.m., Simmons said.
The extent of the driver's injuries were not known immediately.
