Eduardo Diaz Martinez, 19, of Concord, and a 17-year-old male were scoping the parking lot of a Holiday Inn located at 2730 N. Main St. about 11:15 p.m. Monday, Walnut Creek police Sgt. Mike Sugrue said.
Martinez is expected to be charged with auto burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy after officers detained him without incident, Sugrue said. By then, the two had left the parking lot on foot.
The 17-year-old ran away and jumped two barbed wire fences into a nearby business when officers spotted the pair, Sugrue said. But he was found by police dogs after trying to hide underneath a storage area, he said.
Two of the vehicles in the Holiday Inn parking lot had been broken into, and stolen property from them was located and returned to the owners, Sugrue said.
The two suspects had stolen property and burglary tools, Sugrue said. Martinez was booked at the County Jail in Martinez, and the 17-year-old was booked at Juvenile Hall. The younger suspect is expected to be charged with auto burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy and resisting arrest, Sugrue said.
Police said it's possible the two may have committed other thefts and burglaries before they were caught and are encouraging residents in the area to call 925-943-5844 should they find signs of break-ins and items missing from their cars.
