WALNUT CREEK -- An early riser out for a morning jog came across an unsettling surprise that resulted in the arrest of a Concord man early Wednesday morning, police said.

The runner was coming around the corner at Weaver Lane and Minert Road at approximately 5:08 a.m. and noticed somebody inside his car, in the 2600 block of Breton Place, Walnut Creek police Lt. Jay Hill said. The suspect got out when he was spotted and ran away but was arrested within minutes of the runner's emergency call, Sgt. Mike Sugrue said.

Jose Dejesus Zacarias, 19, was taken into custody without incident, Sugure said. Police said Zacarias had drug paraphernalia and stolen property on him and that he surrendered without incident.

He is expected to be charged with auto burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. Zacarias was taken to County Jail in Martinez and was being held in lieu of $40,000.

The stolen property found by police was from another car and returned to the owner, Sugure said. Police were unsure if any other cars had been invaded but urged citizens in the area to call Walnut Creek police if they find anything missing or see any signs of tampering with their vehicles.
