BENICIA -- One person was flown to a local hospital after their car careened off Interstate 680 late Thursday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The solo-vehicle crash occurred at 8:36 p.m. at the I-680/780 connector. Though the CHP said the car was initially difficult to find, the vehicle was found overturned just west of the connector, with the driver trapped inside.

The driver, who has not been identified, was rescued by fire crews before being flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where his condition was not known.

The on-ramp from I-680 to I-780 remains closed while emergency crews work to bring the car back up to the roadway. It is expected to be closed until at least 11:30 p.m., the CHP said.
