HERCULES -- In an attempt to flee police, a 17-year-old boy jumped out of his moving car on Friday, authorities said.
The chase began at 1:07 p.m. in Hercules when the boy refused to stop after an officer attempted to pull him over for allegedly driving reckless on Willow Avenue near Hawthorne Drive, according to police.
The boy drove his 2000 Buick Century onto westbound Interstate 80 and into Richmond, police said. He eventually drove down the 800 block of Ventura Avenue, where he attempted to jump out of the driver's window while the car was moving, authorities said. When that didn't work, police said he opted for the front passenger door, rolled out of the car and ran away. The car crashed into two parked cars.
After a 40-minute search, police took the Sacramento resident into custody on suspicion of felony evading.
Police later learned the juvenile had two outstanding warrants out of Sacramento County. He was taken to Juvenile Hall in Martinez.
