BENICIA - The man killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 680 on Wednesday was eating fast food and wasn't wearing a seat belt when he lost control of his Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At about 2:50 p.m., the victim, identified as Harold Reynolds, 47, of Benicia, was traveling southbound on Interstate 680 at an unknown speed when his vehicle crossed lanes of traffic and hit the concrete divider.
Reynolds, who was alone in the truck, had just purchased food from Jack in the Box on Lake Herman Road. He was eating his food when he lost control of his truck for an unknown reason, according to the CHP.
The truck continued out-of-control across northbound lanes of traffic and came to rest in the right shoulder. No other vehicles were involved. Witnesses stopped to help the victim, who was trapped in the truck and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision, according to the CHP. The crash remains under investigation.
