BYRON -- Two boys who escaped the Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility were found Monday morning by Contra Costa Sheriff's deputies, a spokesman for the agency said.

The two boys were found around 11 a.m. on the Byron Highway, Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said. The pair were discovered missing from the facility better known as the Byron boys ranch, around 8 a.m., the time breakfast is served, said Paula Hernandez, the assistant chief of Probation for Contra Costa County.

An employee for the Byron Union School District confirmed that Excelsior Middle School went into a lockdown shortly after 10 a.m. Monday. The lockdown was lifted around 10:30 a.m., the district employee said.

The Byron boys ranch houses up to 100 boys who have been sent there by the Juvenile Court. The facility is a dormitory-like setting, and there is not high security. The pair were not armed and weren't considered dangerous, Hernandez said.
