PINOLE -- A Richmond man, 30, was shot to death early Sunday morning at a bar he occasionally frequented, police said.

Officers were called to the Green Lantern Bar just after midnight, Pinole police Chief John Hardester said. The bar, at 1907 San Pablo Ave., is inside a strip mall, and Hardester said the man was found lying unresponsive in the parking lot.

Police and an employee at the bar said the man was shot multiple times. He was declared dead at the scene, Hardester said.

The same employee, who identified herself only as Karen, said the victim was not a regular at the bar but had been in and out a couple of times. The bar was open for business Sunday afternoon, but no other employees commented.

The dead man's identity was not released pending notification of his family. The homicide is the first one in Pinole in 2014.

Police did not release any information regarding possible suspects and said they are still investigating what happened.

Anyone with information is urged to call Pinole police at 510-724-8950.
