RICHMOND -- A Richmond man matching the description of the primary suspect in an assault of a woman at Wildcat Canyon Regional Park has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

Police took Julio Rodriguez, 30, into custody Monday on suspicion of false imprisonment, attempted kidnapping and assault after the woman identified him through a picture, East Bay Regional Parks police Lt. Jon King said.

The woman was in the park Friday, when police say Rodriguez pulled her into a wooded area. She fought back, however, and was able to break free, King said.

An officer who arrested a man several weeks ago for an unrelated incident recognized the description after the attack Saturday, and another officer spotted him while patrolling the park on Monday, police said.

Rodriguez was arrested without incident and taken to County Jail in Martinez, police said.

Anyone with information about Saturday's assault is asked to contact East Bay Regional Park police at 510-881-1833.
