SAN FRANCISCO -- Two workers killed Friday morning in an industrial accident at a San Francisco warehouse have been identified as Hector Vazquez, 46, of Oakland, and Philip Marich, 53, of South San Francisco, according to a San Francisco medical examiner's office investigator.
The two men were unloading large rock slabs from a truck inside a shipping container at Galaxy Granite, Inc. in the Bernal Heights neighborhood, when granite slabs fell on them, according to fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge.
The men were freed from the shipping container in which they had been working. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he later died.
A California Division of Occupational Health and Safety spokesman said the agency is investigating and that Galaxy Granite had never received a safety citation.
