PLEASANT HILL -- Three people were hospitalized with major injuries after three cars were involved in a crash Friday outside a shopping center, authorities said.

A fourth person also was hospitalized with minor injuries after the wreck, which happened around 12:35 p.m. on Buskirk Avenue near Elmira Lane, in front of the Crossroads Shopping Center, at 12:34 p.m., police said.

The three people with major injuries were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Contra Costa Fire Protection District spokesman Steve Aubert said.

The fourth person injured was taken by ambulance to Kaiser Permanente in Walnut Creek, Aubert said.

Details regarding how the crash happened were not available immediately. A stretch of Buskirk Road was closed until about 1:40 p.m., police said.
