BAY POINT -- A man died and a woman was wounded in a shooting late Sunday in Bay Point, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to Mountain View Avenue around 11 p.m. to look into an unknown problem, Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said. Shortly after the initial dispatch, there were calls to the Sheriff's Office that there had been a shooting at the location.
Deputies pronounced a man dead inside the residence, Lee said. His age and identity have not been released. The homicide is the first since September 2012 in Bay Point, an unincorporated community.
A 25-year-old woman was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Authorities did not have her medical status.
No suspects in the shooting were identified immediately, and Sheriff's deputies have not yet established a motive, Lee said.
The shooting occurred in a small house tucked behind a neatly maintained yellow home a short distance from Willow Pass Road.
A woman living there said she was sleeping when the violence erupted and didn't hear anything; two brothers in a home next door said they, too, slept through the gunshots.
Four-year resident Nathaniel Haynes said the disturbance was an anomaly and that Mountain View Avenue is usually a quiet street.
