RICHMOND -- A man was struck and killed by a train Saturday afternoon near Cutting Boulevard, according to Richmond police.
The incident was reported around 1:45 p.m., after the unidentified pedestrian was hit by an Amtrak train while walking near railroad tracks at Cutting and Carlson boulevards, police said.
The man was walking with a cane and may have gotten stuck on the railroad tracks, said Lt. Andre Hill. Richmond police believe the victim was walking with a woman at the time of the accident, who left by the time officers arrived, Hill said.
Police are asking the woman to contact the department in order to find out what happened.
Following the accident, traffic was diverted while train officials and Richmond police investigated.
Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the incident.
