SAN LORENZO -- Hayward police used a Taser to subdue a man during a traffic stop on Wednesday morning after he failed to yield to officers, drove out of city limits, pulled over then refused to get out of his vehicle.

Sometime before 10:20 a.m. an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle in Hayward for a traffic violation, but the driver failed to pull over, Hayward Police Sgt. Eric Melendez said.

The driver, whose identity was not immediately released, ended up crossing the Hayward border and pulling over in San Lorenzo, police said. But when an officer approached the vehicle, the man reportedly rolled up his windows and locked the doors.

What transpired after that was not immediately known, but a short time later police used a Taser to subdue the man, Melendez said.

The man was treated for his injuries and expected to be taken to jail.
