WALNUT CREEK -- A Concord man suspected of burglarizing an exercise studio was spotted by an alert officer and arrested early Friday, police said.
Police caught 42-year-old Juan Rodriguez after responding to reports that a burglary was in process around 1:30 a.m. at The Bar Method, located in the 1900 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard, Walnut Creek police Sgt. Mike Sugrue said. Officers arrived in less than a minute and saw a person running away from the building.
Officers surrounded the area and used police dogs to find the person but were unsuccessful initially, Sugrue said. But one officer who remained near the studio during the search saw him and captured him, he said.
Police said Rodriguez had stolen property on him, and that he was identified positively as the primary suspect in two separate commercial burglaries to the same business. He was arrested on suspicion of two counts of commercial burglary and one count of possession of stolen property, Sugrue said. He also had an outstanding warrant for an unrelated matter, Sugrue said.
Rodriguez was taken to the County Jail in Martinez. His bail information was not available immediately.
