ORINDA -- A man missing from a care facility since Thursday night was located Friday, authorities said.

Police found Ramon Guerra, 67, around noon, a few miles from the facility from where he disappeared, police said. They said he spent the night outside.

Guerra wandered from the facility on Altarinda Road about 8:50 p.m. Thursday after telling facility workers he was going to use the bathroom, Orinda Police Chief Mark Nagel said.

Guerra, according to police, is a Cuban native who doesn't speak English, and he didn't have any money on him when he disappeared.

Nagel said Guerra once was homeless in San Francisco and came to the facility for care just two weeks ago after receiving help from the UC San Francisco Medical Center. Police amended his age after originally saying Guerra was 70 years old.

A search aided by helicopters and police dogs was unsuccessful Thursday night. Police put out a community phone call to Orinda residents around 8 a.m. Friday.

Guerra had left the facility about four hours before he went missing, but care workers at that time found him at the end of the street, Nagel said.
