FREMONT—Firefighters battled a small vegetation fire Thursday afternoon that burned 4 acres near Ohlone College before being extinguished, the Fremont Fire Department said.

The fire was reported at 5 p.m. and broke out south of Pine Street, said Deputy Fire Chief Jim Martin. It was contained within about an hour, he added.

The blaze came close to high tension power lines, but did not bring any down. No structures were threatened. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
