CASTRO VALLEY -- Applications are being accepted for a vacancy on the Eden Township Healthcare District board.
Longtime board member Carole Rogers resigned at the end of June because she is moving out of the district. The board has 60 days to appoint someone to fill the vacancy. If no appointment is made, county supervisors have 30 days to name someone to the post.
Applicants must live in the health care district, which includes Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Castro Valley, Ashland, Cherryland and Fairview. The district no longer owns a hospital, but awards health-related grants to nonprofit groups. The board meets once a month.
Applications for the vacancy are due by July 15. Rogers' term runs through the end of the year.
Three of the district board seats will be on the November ballot, including Rogers'. Filing period for the November election is July 14 through Aug. 8.
Anyone interested in applying for the seat should contact Dev Mahadevan or Barbara Adranly at the district office, 20400 Lake Chabot Road, Suite 104, Castro Valley; phone, 510-538-2031.
