OAKLAND -- Jury deliberations began Monday at the trial for a San Leandro man accused of repeatedly raping a young girl.
Arthur Esver, 57, has been jailed without bail since March 2011, when the then-9-year-old girl reported that Esver had been sexually abusing her since 2009.
Esver is charged with four counts of felony intercourse or sodomy on a child under 10, and one count of felony sex crime with a child under 10.
An adult woman testified at the trial that Esver sexually abused her when she was a child 25 years ago, which she never reported to police until his recent arrest.
A defense attorney for Esver told jurors on Monday that the prosecution had not met its burden of proof and argued for an acquittal.
Deliberations began Monday afternoon in the court of Alameda County Judge Vernon Nakahara.
