SAN LEANDRO -- Writer Sam Kean will talk about some intriguing science stories found in his New York Times bestselling book "The Disappearing Spoon" Aug. 13 at the Main Library.
In the book -- with the full name "The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements" -- Kean writes humorously about scientific discoveries.
Publisher's Weekly wrote about the book: "With a constant flow of fun facts bubbling to the surface, Kean writes with wit, flair, and authority in a debut that will delight even general readers."
Kean has written for the New York Times Magazine, Mental Floss, Slate and Science Magazine, and has been featured on National Public Radio's "Radiolab" and "All Things Considered."
Kean's talk begins at 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the library, 300 Estudillo Ave. The event is part of San Leandro Reads, a citywide program in which residents are encouraged to read the same book. For details, call 510-577-3971.
