OAKLAND -- The driver of a car was killed and a passenger injured early Sunday when the vehicle they were in was wedged under a parked tractor trailer following a crash in East Oakland, police said.
The man pronounced dead at the scene was Oscar Gonzalez-Martinez, 23, of San Francisco, Alameda County Coroner's Bureau spokesman Sgt. Paul Graves said Sunday evening.
The name of the female passenger, also a San Francisco resident, was not released. She was in stable condition at a hospital.
The wreck happened about 1:21 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of 57th Avenue, an industrial area just south of International Boulevard.
The Honda the two were in was southbound on 57th Avenue when it plowed into the rear of a 20-foot long trailer parked on the west side of the street, police said.
Almost all of the car, which appeared to be a convertible, was wedged under the trailer.
Paramedics pronounced the driver dead at 1:28 a.m.
Police traffic investigators were trying to determine if speed or any other factors played a role.
Eastbound lanes of International Boulevard between 56th and 58th avenues were closed for several hours while police investigated.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 510-777-8570.
