BRENTWOOD -- This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Brentwood CityRead program, which will last from Sept. 10-Oct. 27. The featured book is a suspense novel titled "Locked Rooms," part of the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie King.

Brentwood residents are encouraged to read along with their neighbors and friends by picking up a copy of the novel next month and returning it to the Brentwood Library or giving it to another reader. The branch is at 104 Oak St. in downtown Brentwood.

"Locked Rooms" is part of the New York Times' best-selling series and features Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes, following them to San Francisco while Russell unlocks a family memory and a shocking crime. Copies of the book were purchased and donated by the Friends of the Brentwood Library, Brentwood Art Society, Lions Club of Brentwood and the Rotary Club of Brentwood.

King will be at the CityRead Author Program at 2 p.m. Oct. 21. The event will take place at the Brentwood Community Center, 35 Oak St., and is sponsored by Poets & Writers, Inc. through a grant from The James Irvine Foundation and the Friends of the Brentwood Library.

The Brentwood Library is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more details, call 925-516-5290.
