Pineda owes dad for weight room success: One of the keys to a successful workout is having a workout partner. Someone to push on the days arms are like rubber and another repetition seems impossible.
A month after the 1986 Diablo Valley Athletic League football season, Pittsburg High linebacker/tight end Craig Pineda began pumping iron for this season. He and his partner were hitting the weights six days a week.
But in December, Pineda underwent an appendectomy, and in recovery lost 15 pounds off his frame. During his recovery he lost his workout partner, who continued to workout with another friend.
In stepped a new workout partner. He was a bit older than Craig, but he was someone who could definitely push him to his limits -- Larry Pineda, Craig's father.
"It was tough
"He did a pretty good job. He's strong. I thought he might get tired but he didn't. He pushed me to make sure I kept it going."
Pineda hopes the hard work will not only pay off for himself, but also his team. The senior would like nothing better than to go out as a DVAL champion, especially after last season's 5-5 record.
He's already reaping benefits -- he's 11/2 inches taller, 20 pounds lighter, and moved to a more glamorous position than his defensive line spot last year.
