'The Fabulous Follies' at Antioch's El Campanil
ANTIOCH -- The Vagabond Players presents "The Fabulous Follies," a revue with 50 singers, dancers and performers, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St.
The Vagabond Players first delighted audiences with a similar musical revue at El Campanil two years ago. The lavish stage production, with Las Vegas-style Showgirls, celebrated Vagabond Players' many years of producing plays and musicals for Contra Costa County's seniors and community. Now in its seventh year, the Vagabond Players continues to fulfill its mission of bringing quality entertainment to the senior community.
"The Fabulous Follies" will showcase the talents of performers from ages 25 to 75 in lavish costumes, dancing, singing and entertaining. It's a showcase of not only senior talent but also professional artists of all ages in an eclectic combination of dance, comedy.
Several choreographers have been invited to participate in the show, including the "Starr Steppers" from Rossmoor as well as Dolly's Tappers from Napa. Mike Spellman of Brentwood, and Ella Wolfe of Crockett share their vocal talents as well.
Sharon Redman will direct and choreographer Jennifer Miller is choreographer for this show.

Renowned Lennon vocalist to perform at El Campanil
ANTIOCH -- Drew Harrison, the renowned Lennon vocalist of the San Francisco Bay Area's premiere Beatles tribute band, The Sun Kings, performs at 8 p.m. Oct. 12 at El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St.
A singer-songwriter in his own right, Harrison has been in several original groups over the years, and has recently released a solo acoustic CD, "Go It Alone."
Harrison also joins Santa Cruz's White Album Ensemble from time to time as its guest Lennon vocalist. Tickets are $22 (general admission), $20 seniors, $10 for children 17 and younger.

Auditions set for 'The Nutcraker'
ANTIOCH -- Antioch Children's Theatre will hold auditions for "The Nutcracker" at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 5 p.m. Monday at the Virginia J. Calisesi Studio Theatre, 512 W. Second St., Antioch.
Frank Ballesteros directs. Auditions are open to actors ages 7 and older. Everyone will have a speaking role.
Rehearsals will be 4 to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. Performances will be Nov. 23, 24,25 and 30 and Dec. 1, 2, 7 8 and 9. If cast, there is a $75 participation fee. For more information, call 925-234-1465.
'Christmas At The Biltmore' auditions set
BRENTWOOD -- The Kinsella Theater Group and the Brentwood Arts Society will hold auditions for "Christmas At The Biltmore" from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday or by appointment at Resurrection Ministries, 1275 Fairview Ave.
Actors come prepared with a one to two minute monologue or cold read from the script.
Performances begin 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23 and 24 and 2 p.m. Nov. 25. Additional performances are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and 2 p.m. Dec. 2 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8 and 2 p.m. Dec. 9.

Stage Right presents 'Frankenstein: The Monster Play'
ANTIOCH -- Stage Right Conservatory Theatre Inc. presents "Frankenstein: The Monster Play," at the Nick Rodriguez Community Center at 213 F St. The play is an adaptation by Christopher O'Neil and produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company. Based on the novel by Mary Shelley, this drama is directed by Bryan Anthony.
Performances are 7 p.m. Oct. 19, 20, 26 and 27 and 2 p.m. Oct. 21 and 28.

Chamber music set in Brentwood for Oct. 7
BRENTWOOD -- Thompson Music Studio presents Diane Maltester and Friends performing chamber music composed by Nancy Bachmann. The concert will feature Maltester, clarinet; Bachmann, piano; Ellen St. Thomas, soprano; and Wendy Tamis, harp. Doors open 3:30 p.m. and concert begins 4 p.m. Sunday at 2628 Saint Andrews Drive in Brentwood.

U.S. Air Force Band to perform in Pittsburg
PITTSBURG -- The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the Pittsburg High School Creative Arts Building at 250 School St.
The concert is sponsored by the Black Diamond Ballet Theatre's "Nutcracker" troupe.

Brentwood Writes holds open mic Oct. 11
BRENWTOOD -- Brentwood Writes will host an open mic 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at The Gallery on Second, 741 Second St. All short work -- poetry, short story, nonfiction, or any other creative work -- is welcome. Participants are allowed five minutes each to perform and are encouraged to bring work on any subject, your own or that of another writer, as long as it is neither insulting nor abusive. Everyone is invited whether performing or listening and enjoying.
This event is free and open to the public.

Brentwood Community Center call for artists
BRENTWOOD -- The Public Art Wall project with the city of Brentwood offers local artists a chance to introduce their work to the general public and connect with regional art organizations.
Located at the Brentwood Community Center, this ongoing exhibition is designed to enhance community access to the Community Center and create partnerships between artists and the Brentwood Arts Commission.
The public spaces will showcase artists and art organizations in Brentwood. There will be first preference for Brentwood residents followed by those from other East County cities and communities.
Application packets for the public art walls are now available from the Parks and Recreation department now through Oct. 12 and the exhibit will start on Jan. 1.
