Freedom dominates at West Coast Jamboree

  • The Freedom High girls basketball team won the Topaz Division of the West Coast Jamboree on Dec. 29. The Falcons defeated Mt. Diablo 73-33 and Las Lomas 61-39 en route to a 62-58 championship game win over Sir Francis Drake-San Anselmo.

    Heritage wins Bambauer Classic

  • On Dec. 29, the Heritage High boys basketball team defeated St. Joseph-Santa Maria 72-52 in the championship game of the Bambauer Classic at Marin Catholic High in Kentfield. The Patriots went 4-0 in the tournament with wins over Grant, Miramonte, Marin Catholic and St. Joseph. Coming into this week, the Patriots were 12-2.

    Liberty reaches finals at Hornet Classic

  • The Liberty High boys basketball team reached the finals of the 17th annual Jamie Angley Hornet Classic at Manatowa Gymnasium on Dec. 29. After defeating Elk Grove (60-45) and Chico (62-61), the Lions lost to Enterprise 58-45 in the championship game.

  • Pittsburg at Dougherty Valley, boys basketball, Jan. 4, 7 p.m. -- The Pirates look to avenge a 54-37 loss to Dougherty Valley from earlier in the season.

  • Deer Valley at Jesuit-Carmichael, boys basketball, Jan. 5, 7:30 p.m. -- The Deer Valley boys basketball team looks to rebound against Jesuit after going 1-1 last week.

  • Freedom at Chavez-Stockton, girls basketball, Jan. 7, 7 p.m. -- The Freedom girls basketball team will try to wrap up nonleague play with a win over Chavez-Stockton. Bay Valley Athletic League play begins Jan. 11.

    Stars of the week

  • Marcus Lee, Deer Valley boys basketball -- Lee racked up 31 points, 29 rebounds and dished out six assists in a 70-66 win over McClymonds on Dec. 22.

  • Elliott Pitts, De La Salle boys basketball -- The Arizona-bound senior had 20 points, 11 rebounds and three assists to lead the Spartans past Patriot-Riverside 56-41 for the IHoop Gear Division title at the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.

  • Chrysta Ray, Pittsburg girls basketball -- Ray had six assists, four steals and scored a game high 14 points in a 72-20 victory over Fort Bragg on Dec. 28.
