Freedom reaches Division I semifinals
The Freedom High boys soccer team (14-9-2) won its first two games of the North Coast Section Division I playoffs. The Falcons defeated Berkeley 3-0 in their first round game and upset Pittsburg, the Bay Valley Athletic League champions, 2-0 in their second round game on Feb. 16. This is the first time the Freedom boys soccer team has reached the NCS playoffs.-- Nick Roth
Heritage girls perfect in league play
The Heritage High girls basketball team (22-4) went a perfect 10-0 in BVAL play this season, racking up wins by double-digits in seven of its 10 league games. The Patriots will head into the NCS Division I playoffs with the momentum of a 14-game win streak. Heritage, the No. 1 seed in Division I, received a first-round bye and will play either Pittsburg or San Ramon Valley on Feb. 22.-- Nick Roth

Heritage/San Ramon Valley at Deer Valley, boys basketball, Feb. 22, TBA -- Deer Valley earned an NCS Division I first round bye after clinching the BVAL title, and will host the winner of Heritage and San Ramon Valley. During the regular season, Heritage (20-6) was the only team to defeat Deer Valley in BVAL play, although star center Marcus Lee did not play in the game.
