BRENTWOOD -- A boater who died during a fishing competition in the Delta on Saturday has been identified as a 40-year-old man, authorities said.
Todd Mitsuharo Iwamoto, of Mountain House, was with another man aboard the boat when it struck a rail crossing support about 11:30 a.m. in Old River, near 7000 Orwood Road, according to the county coroner's office and police.
The pilot suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Iwamoto's body was found at about 5 p.m., authorities said. Both men were wearing life jackets when they were thrown in the water, a sheriff's office official said.
The crash remains under investigation. It occurred in Orwood, an area popular with recreational boaters, and located about two miles from Indian Slough and the entrance to Discovery Bay.
Anyone with information about the crash has been asked to call the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol at (925) 427-8507 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
