Foreclosure rates for homes rose in the East Bay and other areas, American CoreLogic said Thursday. In the East Bay, 2.87 percent of existing home loans were in the foreclosure process in September 2009, up from 1.58 percent in September 2008. In Solano County, the foreclosure rate was 4.08 percent, up from 2.52 percent. The San Joaquin County foreclosure rate was 5.68 percent, up from 3.63 percent.

Energy

San Ramon-based Chevron Corp. plans to sell $316 million in assets such as refineries and mines in 2009, triple its prior estimate, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Retail

Pleasanton-based Ross Stores Inc. said same-store sales jumped 9 percent in October, propelled by shoppers who scouted for bargains at the discount retailer. Analysts had predicted a 7.3 percent rise. Ross also raised its outlook, saying third-quarter profits should range from 83 cents to 84 cents a share. The prior estimate was 75 cents to 77 cents.

Hawaii Flights

Alaska Airlines will begin its first ever service between the Bay Area and the Hawaiian Islands starting next week with flights from Oakland International Airport. Alaska on Monday will begin non-stop service between Oakland and Kahului, Maui, and is planning four weekly flights. Technology

Pleasanton-based Adept Technology Inc. reported a sharply smaller loss for the first quarter of fiscal 2010 ended Sept. 26, and said it is making headway against brutal economic currents. The robotic device maker lost $82,000, or 1 cent a share, compared with a year-ago loss of $1.6 million, or 20 cents a share. Revenues were $11.7 million, down 18 percent from a year ago — but 36 percent higher than the fourth-quarter sales.

Earnings

San Leandro-based Energy Recovery Inc. earned $550,000 on revenues of $9.5 million, for its third quarter of fiscal 2009, the maker of energy recovery devices for desalination plants said. Compared with the year-ago quarter, profits fell 12 percent and revenues rose 6 percent.

"Our third quarter results were in line with our expectations and we are preparing for a busy fourth quarter," CEO G.G. Pique said.
