ALAMEDA -- Target has bought 10 acres in Alameda where the retailer will construct a new store that will be the anchor of a shopping center that will be called Alameda Landing.

The new Target store will total 140,000 square feet, said brokers from Terranomics, which arranged the deal. The purchase price wasn't disclosed.

Target's store will be near the corner of Willie Stargell Avenue and 5th Street, a short distance from College of Alameda and Mariner Square Athletic Club, Terranomics said.

The store will be the primary anchor of a 291,000-square-foot shopping center.

Terranomics is seeking tenants for the shopping complex, which is part of a master-planned office, retail and residential development being fashioned by realty firm Catellus.

The new Target store should open in the fall of 2013.

The retailer intends to employ about 200 people at the store.
