SAN MATEO -- Opera Software has expanded its operations in a big way in Silicon Valley by hiring more employees and adding to its office space in San Mateo.
Opera now has 60,000 square feet -- triple the office space it had a year ago with its latest lease. The new lease is for Opera Mediaworks, the umbrella firm for Opera's mobile advertising business. The software company offers an Internet browser named Opera.
"Silicon Valley has become one of Opera's most strategic locations to do business and grow our talent base," said Lars Boilesen, CEO of Norway-based Opera Software.
The company is also busy hiring new employees. Opera and its units now employ 200 people in the Bay Area, double the 100 that the firm employed a year ago.
During 2013, Opera is expected to have 300 employees in the Bay Area, the tech company said.
Besides San Mateo, Opera has offices in Mountain View and San Francisco.
"We will continue our expansion in Silicon Valley by hiring people in all areas and generating more revenue," Boilesen said.
