Apple (AAPL), Google (GOOG) and Facebook are tech juggernauts, but when it comes to working for tech companies, none of them is the best.

Rather, it was Twitter that was named as the top tech company to work for in 2014 by Glassdoor, a jobs and careers website that issues an annual ranking based on feedback from companies' employees.

Twitter made its debut on the list this year, beating out former champ Facebook. San Francisco-based Twitter also came in second in the overall ranking, behind Bain & Company.

So why is Twitter the best? Reviews on Glassdoor's website from people who work there say "Colleagues are extremely smart people that you would grab a beer with them." Another review said "Great people, like a family, that are passionate about growing Twitter to help everyone."

Rounding out the top five tech companies to work for were fellow social networks LinkedIn and Facebook, followed by the lesser known Guidewire and Interactive Intelligence.

Other notables on the list included Google, Apple and Ebay, which came in sixth, 16th and 21st place, respectively. Notably missing from the list are Microsoft and Yahoo (YHOO).
