SRV third in Saint Francis tournament

  • The San Ramon Valley High boys basketball team took third place at the Saint Francis-Mountain View tournament on Dec. 28 with a 56-33 win over Mountain View. Jerry Karczewski led the balanced Wolves with 12 points, and David Gunn added 10 points. Karczewski also had a game-high 23 points in a 66-64 loss against San Leandro in the second round, the Wolves' first loss of the season after 10 victories.

    Reese gives teeth to Wildcats offense

  • Dougherty Valley boys basketball player Kamar Reese scored a game-high 25 points in a 62-58 loss against Serra-San Mateo on Dec. 27 in the semifinals of the Tim Cole Memorial at American High. Daniel Sheets added 15 points for the Wildcats, who dropped to 9-2.

    Wissinger paces Monte Vista in rout

  • Lily Wissinger had a game-high 22 points and Amanda Daily had 20 points as the Monte Vista girls basketball team routed Castro Valley 58-30 on Dec. 28 in the semifinals of the Lady Cougars Holiday Classic at Newark Memorial. The Mustangs, who improved to 10-0, led 40-9 at halftime

    Dougherty Valley girls hold on for victory over Salinas

  • The Dougherty Valley girls basketball team got 10 points from junior guard Jordan Turner and held on for 34-32 win over Salinas on Dec. 28 in the second round of the Monterey Bay Sweet 16 tournament. The young Wildcats have shown improvement after dropping six of their first seven games this season.

    John leads Mustangs past Campolindo

  • Senior guard Trevor John scored a game-high 21 points as the Monte Vista Vista boys basketball team beat Campolindo in the second round of the Modesto Christian tournament on Dec. 27. The Mustangs also beat Serra-Gardena 38-36 on Dec. 28 to improve to 10-0. Five of John's seven field goals against Camnpolindo were 3-pointers. Center Spencer Rust added 19 points for the Mustangs.

    Bessolo leads Vikings in Emerald victory

  • Sophomore Nina Bessolo had a game-high 22 points and Kayla Frierson added 14 points as the Valley Christian girls basketball team beat Casa Grande-Petaluma 54-44 on Dec. 28 in the second round of the Emerald Division in the West Coast Jamboree.

    Grizzlies ride McQuiston to triumph

  • Senior guard and captain Michelle McQuiston had a game-high 14 points as the California girls basketball team topped Torrance 42-41 in overtime on Dec. 28 in the semifinals of the Lady Rebels Classic. Kassie Kochan added 11 points for the Grizzlies, who imrpoved to 7-4.

  • Granada Mat Classic, wrestling, Jan. 4, all day -- The 13th annual tournament will boast East Bay Athletic League teams Amador Valley, California, Granada, Foothill, Livermore and Monte Vista, along with Diablo Foothill Athletic League rivals Dougherty Valley and Dublin.
