Heritage wins first BVAL golf title

  • Heritage High secured the school's first-ever Bay Valley Athletic League title in boys golf after narrowly defeating Deer Valley 430-434 in the league tournament at Shadow Lakes Golf Course on April 28. Heritage and Deer Valley were tied with a 9-1 record heading into the league tournament, and the tie-breaker was settled by the lowest team score.

    Deer Valley still perfect in league play

  • The Deer Valley boys volleyball team finally came back down to earth. After reeling off 27 consecutive wins, the Wolverines lost 18-25, 25-18, 15-7 to Clovis in the final of the Granite Bay Invitational. Earlier in the week, Deer Valley (32-2, 6-0 BVAL) had two BVAL wins over Heritage and Antioch, and then defeated Ponderosa, Clovis-East and Granite Bay before losing to Clovis in the final.

    Liberty earns a spot in NCS qualifier

  • A Liberty boys golf team that finished league play with a 5-5 record surprised the Bay Valley Athletic League by finishing first with a team score of 412 in the league tournament on April 28. The tournament win solidifies a spot for Liberty in the NCS qualifying tournament on May 5 at Diablo Creek Golf Course.

    LMC ends regular season in style

  • The Los Medanos College baseball team finished Bay Valley Conference play with a resounding 12-0 win over Laney on April 26. The Mustangs finished the regular season winning 10 of their final 12 contests and were scheduled to go on the road to face Canada College-Redwood City in a play-in game on April 29, after this newspaper went to press.

  • NCS qualifier, boys golf, May 5, TBA -- Liberty hopes move on to the Tournament of Champions with a strong showing against some of the top golf teams in the area.

  • BVAL tournament, boys tennis, May 5-6, 9 a.m. -- The end of the season league tournament will take place at Diamond Hills starting at 9 a.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Megan Conder, girls golf, Heritage-- Conder recently finished 17th among some of the best junior golfers in California at the Kraft Nabisco Championship Junior Challenge at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage.

  • Ben Polansky, baseball, Los Medanos-- In the final game of the regular season, Polansky pitched a nine-inning gem, striking out four and allowing no runs in the Mustangs' 12-0 win over Laney. He also had two hits.

  • Michael Uy, boys golf, Heritage -- Uy shot a 75 and had the best individual score at the BVAL tournament on April 28. He was also named the BVAL's MVP.
