Cal starting tight end Anthony Miller underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday and will miss at least Saturday's home game against Oregon State.

Miller pulled a muscle near his left knee during Saturday's 23-21 win at Arizona State. An MRI showed excessive bleeding in the muscle, and doctors were concerned that it could have indicated major damage to his knee. Arthroscopic surgery was the only way to tell.

Doctors trimmed Miller's meniscus but found no major damage. Cal coach Jeff Tedford said Miller could return as early as the Nov. 14 game against Arizona.

Miller is the Bears' third-leading receiver with 17 catches. Skylar Curran will start in his place.

  • Cal tailback Jahvid Best and Stanford running back Toby Gerhart were named Maxwell Award semifinalists.
