ECHO PARK - Bike rider killed: A 44-year old man was killed early Sunday morning after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle.

Police say the victim, whose name was being withheld pending notification of his family, was hit at around 1:45 a.m. by 22-year-old Alejandro Hidalgo of Panorama City.

Hidalgo was heading southbound in his 2003 Mitsubishi Galant with a passenger in the 1200 block of North Glendale Boulevard, north of Park Street when he hit the victim riding his 10-speed bicycle south on Glendale Boulevard. The passenger riding with Hidalgo also was found, questioned and released.

Hidalgo was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and is being held on $100,000 dollars bail.
