LONG BEACH - A business at 125 E. Eighth St. was evacuated and the Metro Blue Line was temporarily shut down Wednesday after a 2-inch gas line was hit by a backhoe during a construction project.
Emergency crews responded to the call at 10:15 a.m. and the gas department quickly capped the leak.
Although there was no fire and no injuries, 20 to 25 people were evacuated from the business and the Blue Line was shut down from Pine to Pacific avenues as a precaution, according to Capt. Jack Jackson of the Long Beach Fire Department.
The Blue Line was back up and employees were allowed back in the building after about 30 minutes.
