Five-year-old Lana is described as a very caring and helpful child. She comes from a single-parent home and has two older siblings. She hasn't seen her father in years.

Being a Girl Scout has given her many opportunities to explore and learn new things, for which her mother is grateful.

Lana's mother works as a part-time day-care provider and would love for her kids to be able to go to a week of camp. However, with a very limited income, she can just support the basic needs of her three kids.

Since the Send-A-Kid-To-Camp campaign began in 1999, thousands of kids have been able to participate in outdoor fun they would otherwise not have experienced. To date, donations have reached $45,294.80 from 373 donors.

The average cost of a week at camp is $375 for one child.

Tax-deductible contributions can be made out to the Send-a-Kid-to-Camp Fund and mailed c/o the Long Beach Community Foundation, P.O. Box 21174, Long Beach, CA 90801-4174.

Online contributions can be made at www.longbeachcf.org.
