Today should be mostly sunny, with highs near 80 degrees at the beaches to the mid 90s inland, and triple digits in some mountain and valley areas.
High pressure over Arizona is funneling heat and humidity into Southern California that could boost the heat index to near 110 degrees by Tuesday.
The high pressure system will blow coastal moisture back offshore, allowing temperatures to rise daytimes and not retreat into the high 50s at night. The hottest days should be Tuesday and Wednesday.
Area beaches are expected to remain in the 70s and low 80s.
