Pomona College will receive a very influential visitor this week.

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates will speak with Harvey Mudd College president Maria Klawe and take questions from the audience at Bridges Auditorium on Thursday. The event is part of a speakers series at Pomona and Harvey Mudd colleges. Free tickets for Pomona College students, faculty and staff are sold out. Limited tickets for the general public might be available at the Bridges Auditorium box office.

Eight candidates are running for three open seats in Claremont. In San Dimas, Sid Maksoudian is hoping to unseat

Curtis W. Morris in the mayoral race, while three candidates are vying for two open City Council seats.

In Pomona, the City Council will discuss appropriating $765,000 for Civic Center Plaza improvements. The plan calls for removing the fountain in the plaza and building an area for a mobile stage.

Later this week, the Daily Bulletin will learn more about what Montclair's new Family Resource Center has to offer. The Central Avenue facility has its soft opening today. It will provide comprehensive case-management services for local children and families.
