The Northcoast CalSOAP Consortium will receive $270,000 in grant funds to distribute in the form of the Northcoast College Access Scholarship to local high school seniors in Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino and Trinity counties.
The grant is made available from the College Access Foundation of California and will be awarded to select seniors who have been intensely served by either the California Student Opportunity and Access Program (CalSOAP) or the Upward Bound programs at College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University.
CalSOAP, which is housed at College of the Redwoods, has been providing scholarships to local students since the fall of 2006. Seniors who have been awarded scholarships have an opportunity to renew that scholarship yearly as long as they are full-time students and maintain a 2.5 grade point average. To date, the program has provided $441,750 in scholarship dollars to local students.
Local schools whose students may benefit from this year's scholarship opportunity include Academy of the Redwoods, Arcata, Del Norte, Fort Bragg, Fortuna Union, Eureka, Hayfork, Hoopa Valley, Mattole Triple Junction, McKinleyville, Southern Trinity, South Fork and Trinity high schools.
