NEWARK -- Police arrested one person after a nearly seven-hour standoff at a Newark home Thursday as part of an investigation into a carjacking in Fremont that left one man injured, police said.
The carjacking victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries when he was assaulted late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning during the carjacking along Thornton Avenue, said Fremont police Detective Bill Veteran. The victim's name was not released.
The investigation led police to a residence on Cedar Boulevard near Lafayette Avenue, which SWAT team officers surrounded shortly before noon Thursday, Fremont police Sgt. Jeff Campbell said.
Officers detained a number of people who left the house and closed traffic in both directions of Cedar Boulevard, Campbell said.
The road was reopened shortly before 7 p.m. and police announced the SWAT activity had ended. Additional details on arrests or injuries will be available Friday, police said.
