Illegal camp sparks fire in Pogonip

An illegal camp near the railroad tracks in Pogonip sparked a 1-acre fire early Saturday, Santa Cruz fire officials said.

The fire broke out in steep, wooded terrain about 6 a.m. a quarter-mile from the Pogonip clubhouse, Battalion Chief Jason Hajduk said.

Crews from Santa Cruz Fire Department, UC Santa Cruz, Central Fire Protection District and Cal Fire responded to the scene.
